Ducks Soar at ITA Atlantic South Region Championship

The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team showcased their talent and determination at the three-day ITA Atlantic South Region Championship, held in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Ducks' players competed across various flights, with several standout performances that highlighted the team's depth and potential.

Aytekin Advances, Dry and Untermeyer Dominate in Doubles

Junior Sude Aytekin demonstrated her prowess on the court, securing a victory in the opening round of the Championship Flight. She swiftly dispatched Tuva Fink of Virginia Wesleyan with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 performance. However, Aytekin faced a tougher challenge in the subsequent round, falling 6-0, 6-2 to Divya Venkatarama of Carnegie Mellon.In the doubles competition, the duo of Alix Dry and Stephanie Untermeyer, seeded ninth, showcased their teamwork and skill. The pair earned a bye in the opening round and then defeated Lindsey Berglin and Kendal Chang of Haverford 8-4. Aytekin and Milagros Carbajal Diaz also competed in the Championship Flight of doubles, but they fell 8-2 to the Washington College duo of Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola.

Eguia and Gomez Battle in Blue 1 Flight

Emma Eguia and Julianna Gomez represented the Ducks in the Blue 1 Flight, facing tough opponents. Eguia took on Sahana Sanjeev of Johns Hopkins University, ultimately dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision. Gomez also competed in the Blue 1 Flight, falling 6-2, 6-4 to Lara Geib of Swarthmore.

Lai Competes in Blue 2 Flight

Wei-Wei Lai was the lone competitor for the Ducks in the Blue 2 Flight, where she faced off against Madeline Posner of Swarthmore. Lai put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-2.

Carbajal Diaz Shines in Blue 3 Flight

Milagros Carbajal Diaz showcased her talent in the Blue 3 Flight, where she secured a victory in the Round of 16. Carbajal Diaz defeated Fleur Gaalman of Randolph College 6-1, 6-3. However, her run came to an end in the quarterfinals, where she was upended 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) by Sofia Sperandei of Washington College.

Ducks Poised for Continued Success
